I live by
this old Chinese saying:
"When someone shares
with you something of value and you derive benefit from it, you have the
obligation to share it with others".
So, I just
have to spread the word around that I have recently attended the most interesting programme and all thanks to a posting I read on
eHomemakers.net.
If you
are wondering whether you are the right participant for “Science of
Product Innovation Programme”, my personal experience may help you to
decide.
Before
the programme, it was like I was sailing in a ship (my business concepts
and product) with many other ships going in the same direction. As the
ship sail slowly forward, I kept wondering if I should jump ship since the
ones ahead of me seem to be doing better (a common "the grass is always greener on
the other side" mentality).
What the
two days course did for me was to let me think beyond the box and induced
me to ask myself, what changes I can make to my ship, in order to move
full steam ahead. I was surprised to learn that it is possible for me to
get to my destination faster running my ship even without a sail than by
using the latest and greatest engines. All I have to do is explore all
possibilities with the “thinking” tools introduced in the programme.
And if
you have to jump ship, you would like to be guided by Dr Kamal Jit Singh
who conducted this programme. He is British Telecom’s (BT) Regional
Director, CEO of the Asian Research Centre (ARC) and also the Executive
Director of Global Innovation Research Centre (GIRC). He will make
you
bang your head for thinking that ship can only sail on water when you can
make it fly.
By the
way, you will suffer a side effect after attending this programme. The symptom you
have to watch out for is a sudden bout of creativity.
I am
looking forward to the 50 to 60 pages report I will be getting from BT
based on the innovative input I was able to add to my business concepts
and product. This is a feasibility report that will enable
SMIDEC to review to consider giving me a grant to run my business. I
am sure that this business plan will also give me a sense of direction as
to how I should run my business.
BT
intends to nurture 325 small business owners. The next intake is on19 and
20 Dec 2006 or 10 and 11
